AUC Conference 2009
The AUC Conference is held every two years to provide a key opportunity for delegates from higher education institutions, primarily in Australia and New Zealand, to meet and explore new horizons. The 2009 Conference will allow academics, IT staff, developers and students to exchange information, ideas, philosophies and practical advice on technology innovation, teaching and learning, using Apple technology in the higher education environment.
Conference participants will have an opportunity to engage with issues concerning new technologies and learning methodologies by participating in workshops, small group discussions and special interest groups. Leading practitioners will discuss the latest Apple technologies and their application in Higher Education. Our international speakers will also update us on innovative developments overseas.
The conference will be held at the National Convention Centre, Canberra. The conference will kick off on Sunday 27 September and conclude on Wednesday 30 September 2009.
Conference Theme
The Australian Apple University Consortium’s mission is to serve member Universities and their staff and students in many ways, including sharing experience, insights and know-how, and inspiring and fostering innovative use of Apple technology in universities.
Our major conference held every two years, is a key part of achieving that mission, which is a mission of sharing. Our theme for 2009 - “you can take IT with you” - reflects the rich opportunities presented by access to data anytime and anywhere.
Call for Papers
Papers and presentations are sought in three broad streams:
Data
Data is all around us, we create, collect, modify, change, store and use it every day. As members of a University community we need to manage this data, be able to analyse it, record it and change it as required. Data is now more than numbers, it can include audio, video, podcasts, mash-ups and more.
Devices
Devices let us access and manipulate the data we create, whether it be a standard desktop, laptop or mobile device. We are increasingly connected with Wifi and 3G, and technology is changing the way we use traditional devices such as the TV. How do these changes affect the teaching and learning experience?
Dreams
What is the future? Where do we go with anytime, anywhere constantly connected communications? How can we manage the future of our Universities if we have no need to be on campus?
/dev/world/
The AUC 2009 Conference will incorporate dev/world/2009 as an event within the main conference. Developers and students may submit either academic papers for publication, or proposals for less formal papers which will not be published. In addition, specific developer facilities and resources will be allocated for demonstrations, workshops and show and tell sessions.
Successful Papers will be Published
A peer review of all academic papers will be undertaken. All submitted papers will be assessed by a Program Committee of academics using a blind refereeing process. All successful final academic papers will be published and may be cited as a publication in a refereed Proceedings. Abstracts for Program Committee feedback are welcome at any time.
Successful Authors Funded
Authors from Australian AUC Universities invited to present papers will be supported by the Australian AUC and Apple Computer Australia. For one speaker per paper, return economy airfare, registration and standard accommodation costs will be provided. The Australian AUC will provide partial support for international speakers, and will endeavour to negotiate further support from Apple worldwide to support international presenters at the Conference.
Students Supported
The AUC strongly encourages students to present at the Conference. Historically students been have exciting and innovative contributors to the Conference and the AUC would like to continue their involvement. Students may submit either a full paper or a report on a project they are working on that might be of interest to delegates. Papers and reports will be assessed by the Program Committee taking into consideration the length of time students have been attending University and the course they are undertaking. Students from Australian AUC universities chosen to present papers will receive funding to attend the Conference including return economy airfare, registration and budget accommodation.
