About the AUC

To enhance and increase computing technology on campus, provide low-cost computing to the University community and, in conjunction with Apple, further develop Apple products and share experiences amongst other tertiary education institutions.

In 1984 when the Apple Macintosh computer was first released, Apple entered into a partnership with nine Australian universities to form the Apple University Consortium (Australia). At the heart of the relationship was the ability for departments, staff and students of the Universities to obtain Apple technology at reduced prices and to enable development of innovative solutions using the Macintosh. The concept of sharing information and experiences, and the ability to foster educational development activities were the major motivating factors.

The AUC has 32 Member Universities including a number of Associate memberships including one in India.

The AUC is totally independant of Apple, it is governed by the member Universities and operates its own programs on its own behalf.

The AUC operates a number of quality programs and initiatives that deliver many benefits to its members. These include supporting the development of Apple technology in Higher Education through the Apple University Development Fund (AUDF) which offers grants for worthwhile projects. Grants are allocated by the AUDF Grants Committee which has representation from Apple and the Academic community.

Members also get the opportunity to attend Apple's World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) held each year in the USA. WWDC is Apple's major event of the year with delegates learning about Apple technologies and the latest products directly from software and hardware engineers.

The AUC operate a number of committees including the AUC Executive Committee which is responsible for liaising regularly with Apple Computer and the Consortium to ensure the goals of each individual member are achieved. The Conference Organising Committee plans and overseas the AUC Conference which is held every 18 months in conjuction with a member University.

The role of the AUC Programs Manager is to assist in developing and implementing the many programs within Apple and the AUC.
