Applying for a WWDC Scholarship

Allocated Staff Scholarships

To apply for an Allocated Staff Scholarship you need to contact your local AUCDF Coordinator to enquire about the selection process and critical dates that apply at your University. The selection process for Allocated Staff Scholarships is handled by the local University, the AUC does not take part in the process or decision making for these Scholarships.

The following Univeristies have an Allocated WWDC Scholarship to award in 2011:

Those member Universities not listed above will receive an Allocated WWDC Scholarhips in 2012.

Nationally Competitive Staff & Student Scholarships

Staff and students from all AUC member Universities are invited to apply for a WWDC Scholarship via the AUC web site. In 2011 up to 15 staff scholarships and 20 student scholarships will be made available in addition to the allocated staff scholarships. These scholarships will be awarded by the AUC Development Fund Committee, based on merit and from information provided in the application form.

Eligibility

  • Students must be enrolled at an AUC member University in Australia with at least a 75% full-time workload.
  • Staff must:
    (a) hold no less than a 50% fractional appointment as an employee of an Australian AUC member;
    and
    (b) whether through employment alone, or by considering employment by an AUC member combined with enrolled student status at that or another AUC university, have no less that an 80% commitment of normal working time to formal university activities.
  • Students and staff MUST be able to travel to the USA when WWDC occurs and have the relevant passports and visas required to do so.
  • Students MUST have full comprehensive Travel Insurance when they travel to the USA. Staff must have the written permission of their relevant department head to travel overseas on University business.

Application Forms

Allocated Staff Scholarships
The staff application form is required to be completed and submitted to your local AUCDF Coordinator electronically. The application form of the successful applicant will be forwarded to the AUC strictly for
informational purposes.  The AUC may contact the successful applicant directly after the conference to gain
insight/ perspective on their attendance at WWDC.

Being awarded the Scholarship


Allocated Staff Scholarships
The local AUCDF Coordinator will advise if you have been awarded the Scholarship. Each University is free to select scholarship delegates in the manner they see fit while adhering to the spirit and intention of the Scholarship program as outlined by the AUC. The AUC does not involve itself in any internal selection processes or decisions.

Competitive Staff and Student Scholarships

Competitive Student Scholarhips applications will be reviewed against the above eligibility requirements along with the following selection criteria

  • The applicant is a software developer or enrolled in a program of study consistent with that career path and is able to demonstrate that attendance would assist in their professional/ academic pursuits. (Essential)
  • The applicant has a commitment to share outcomes from the scholarship within their institution or broader AUC community. (Essential)
  • Demonstrated personal contribution back to the AUC or broader community where the applicants has attended WWDC  previously with AUC support. Examples of such contributions include, presentations delivered at  /dev/world and other AUC conferences, the sharing of software and experience. (Essential where applicable)
  • has, or is likely to, develop shared, valuable software for MacOS/iOS (Desirable)


Competitive Staff Scholarhips applications will be reviewed against the above eligibility requirements along with the following selection criteria

  • The applicant is a software developer, manages or teachers software developers  and is able to demonstrate that attendance would assist in their professional/ academic pursuits. (Essential)
  • The applicant has a commitment to share outcomes from the scholarhsip within their institution or broader AUC community. (Essential)
  • Demonstrated personal contribution back to the AUC or broader community where the applicants has attended WWDC  previously with AUC support. Examples of such contributions include, presentations delivered at  /dev/world and other AUC conferences, the sharing of software and experience. (Essential where applicable)
  • has, or is likely to, develop shared, valuable software for MacOS/iOS (Desirable)
Staff and students will be selected by the AUCDF Selection Committee and advised individually by e-mail. A list of successful applicants will also be published on this web site on the 19 April 2010.

Booking your WWDC Registration

All staff and student WWDC attendees needs to register as an Apple Developer via the Apple web site and the AUC will purchase a WWDC Registration Ticket on their behalf.

Booking your Travel and Accommodation

Once you have been confirmed as registered to attend WWDC you can proceed to book your flights and accommodation. Please visit the 'Travel & Accommodation' web page for more information including links to airlines and hotel web sites that you will need. Return to this page when completed.

Travel Insurance

Traveling in the US without adequate travel insurance is not encouraged by the AUC. Travel insurance for staff will usually be covered by the University as part of their international travel insurance policy but please check with your University before you leave.

Students MUST have travel insurance before they leave and the AUC requires proof of adequate travel insurance before they will be reimbursed. Contact your travel agent for more details.

Confirm your bookings

If you haven't already done so please confirm your bookings. This includes:

  • WWDC Registration Ticket via the ADC web site, check your Assets for a WWDC E-Ticket
  • Domestic and International Flights including arrival and departure times
  • Accommodation details (either directly with the hotel or via a Hotel Booking Site)
  • Travel Insurance (University coverage or personal insurance)

Advise the AUC of your details

Once you have completed the above steps please advise the AUC of your details. This is so we know who is attending, can assist you if you have any difficulties and even invite you to special AUC and Australian events during WWDC.

Your name and e-mail address will be published on the AUC web site so others also attending can contact you.

While the AUC is not a travel agency we will endeavour to assist you with any problems regarding registration, travel and accommodation to the best of our ability.

Before you leave

Before you leave to attend WWDC here is a short checklist you might want to go through.

  • Passport (valid for at least 6 months) and Visa (if required).
  • Tickets for WWDC (e-ticket), flights, hotel confirmation, etc.
  • Enough money for your stay in US$ Traveler Cheque's (see FAQ)
  • Credit Cards which won't expire while in the US.
  • Clothes and toiletries (see FAQ).
  • Copies of important documents. Leave one set with a relative/friend in Australia and keep another one in a separate place to your real documents.

Claiming your WWDC Scholarship Subsidy.

The AUC will reimburse you up to the amounts indicated upon presentation of suitable evidence of your bookings and receipts and confirmation of attendance at WWDC. Claims will be accepted after June 2011. Please visit the WWDC Claims page for more details.
