AUC Academic & Developers Conference
2001
James Cook University, Townsville
23rd to 26th September, 2001
What is the Apple University Consortium?
The Apple University Consortium (AUC) has a large membership among Universities
throughout Australia and New Zealand. Members work together to support
the use of Apple technology on campus to further the goals of education.
Why would I want to attend?
This conference is held every two years to provide a key opportunity for
delegates from higher education institutions, primarily in Australia and
New Zealand to meet and explore new horizons. The 2001 Academic and Developer
Conference will allow academics, administrators and developers to exchange
information, ideas, philosophies and practical advice on technology innovation,
teaching and learning, using Apple technology in the higher education
environment. Conference participants will have an opportunity to engage
with issues concerning new technologies and learnings by participating
in debates, small group discussions and special interest groups. Leading
practitioners will discuss the latest Apple technologies and their application
to flexible learning in Higher Education. Our international speakers will
also update us on innovative developments overseas.
Conference Theme
The theme is "e-Xplore 2001: A Face-to-Face Odyssey". The theme
links the growth in the information world and e-solutions in recent years
along with the release of Mac OS X by Apple Computer as well as focusing
on the personal interactivity that is an integral part of the conference.
By demonstrating concepts and solutions, attendees can take home the ideas
and implement them successfully in their own environment. There will be
three streams:
- Academic e-Xcellence - How Apple technology is making
academics more successful in research and teaching.
- The Student e-Xperience How students learn
and experience the world of technology from both a student and academic
perspective.
- Developer e-Xcitement Mac OS Xs UNIX
roots will be widely embraced by many. This stream focuses
on how developers are taking advantage of the exciting opportunities
presented by Mac OS X.
The conference committee strongly encourages software
and hardware developers to present at this conference. Developers may
submit academic papers for publication, or may submit proposals for less
formal presentations. To this end, specific developer facilities and resourcing
will be allocated for demonstrations, workshops and show and tell sessions.
Successful Papers will be published.
A peer review of all academic papers will be undertaken. All submitted
papers will be assessed by a program committee of Academics from Australia
and New Zealand, using a blind refereeing process. All successful final
papers will be published and may be cited as a publication in a refereed
Proceedings.
Successful Authors will be supported
Authors from Australian AUC Universities invited to present papers will
be supported by the Australian AUC. For one speaker per paper, return
economy airfare, registration and budget accommodation costs will be met
by the AUC. The Australian AUC will provide partial support for international
speakers, and will endeavor to negotiate further support from Apple in
Australia and internationally to support international presenters at the
conference.
NB: Any upgrading of airfare or accommodation will be at the speaker's
expense.
Papers are to be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format (any
version).
Please include the following with your submission:
- A one-paragraph description of yourself and your
achievements (a full bibliography is not required).
- Your contact details: name, address, phone, fax and

for those not in a position to present a full paper. These can be nominated
