AUC Academic & Developers Conference
2001
James Cook University, Townsville
23rd to 26th September, 2001
Conference Theme
The theme is "e-Xplore 2001: A Face-to-Face Odyssey". The theme
links the growth in the information world and e-solutions in recent years
along with the release of Mac OS X by Apple Computer as well as focusing
on the personal interactivity that is an integral part of the conference.
By demonstrating concepts and solutions, attendees can take home the ideas
and implement them successfully in their own environment. There will be
three streams:
- Academic e-Xcellence - How
Apple technology is making academics more successful in research and
teaching.
- The Student e-Xperience
How students learn and experience the world of technology from both
a student and academic perspective.
- Developer e-Xcitement
Mac OS Xs UNIX roots will be widely embraced by many.
This stream focuses on how developers are taking advantage of the exciting
opportunities presented by Mac OS X.
The conference committee strongly
encourages software and hardware developers to present at this conference.
Developers may submit academic papers for publication, or may submit
proposals for less formal presentations. To this end, specific developer
facilities and resourcing will be allocated for demonstrations, workshops
and show and tell sessions.

A peer review of all academic papers will be undertaken. All submitted
papers will be assessed by a program committee of Academics from Australia
and New Zealand, using a blind refereeing process. All successful final

the 'Capital' of North Queensland, and is a city that boasts a relaxed
tropical lifestyle, as well as a dynamic and lively nature.
Townsville boasts a wide choice of attractions and entertainment. Theatres,
museums and galleries showcase the region's military, cultural and maritime
history. Other attractions include Jupiters Casino, Reef HQ, Billabong
Sanctuary, and the Strand Beachfront, which offers a myriad of watersports,
restaurants, cafes, livesaving clubs, parks, pools, walking tracks and
children's playgrounds.
Townsville has a culturally diverse population approaching 145,000 and
this cosmopolitan influence is reflected in the bustling restaraunts and
cafes located within the inner city. Italian, French, Greek and Asian
cuisines are served al fresco-style throughout Palmer Street - the city's
dining precinct. Flinders Street East is another of the city's restaurant
precincts, complete with a colourful range of nightclubs and bars. Home
to the largest arts and
crafts markets in North Queensland, the city also features three major
shopping centres together with Flinders Mall.
Encouraged by a superb, year-round climate, Townsville fosters an active
lifestyle and with the Barrier Reef only a few minutes away promises a
